Oh what a day, and night, and day...

Oh what a story I have to tell. It all started yesterday morning. I had a long awaited Dr. appointment in Craig, CO-of all places-with a migraine headache specialist. I have suffered with headaches since I was 9 years old, and they have gotten worse the past 2 years. You had to have a referral to this Dr., I waited forever to get in, and I heard she was wonderful. So yesterday was the day.
So I left G.J. and the kids home alone and I drove over all alone. I stopped at the “Loaf ‘n’ Jug” in Dinosaur, CO. Well as soon as I stepped out of the car, I slipped and fell so so hard on the ice. I hurt my knee and my forearm. While it hurt like the dickens, I was in a hurry, and running late so I didn’t give it much thought.
Well on the way home I noticed my arm swelling and turning black and blue. That night I was supposed to go to dinner and have a girl’s night with Mandy. We did a little shopping, had a delicious dinner at Don Pedro’s, and then headed to Wal-Mart. Well as we were shopping, we both noticed my arm getting much worse. She talked me into going to the urgent care.
I told her I would only go if there were no cars there…Well there weren’t. I headed in and I was the only patient. As the receptionist was typing in my name, she realized I had a credit for $30-the exact same amount of what my co-pay was supposed to be! So I was glad, I really didn’t want to pay for it.
Anyways, moving on. They did an x-ray, and the Dr.’s initial thoughts were that it was not broken. We were all having fun and being silly, it was the best girl’s night ever! The mood turned quickly as the Dr. saw some blood pooling on the x-ray in between my 2 arm bones. He said it was something called compartment syndrome, and that if left untreated, I could lose my arm. I had “forgot” to tell him of my blood disorder, where I bleed easily. He said that explained it all, and highly recommended that I head right to the ER.
Well, I am very stubborn, and I wanted to get hot chocolate instead. I had a restless night, it hurt so bad. My fingers kept going numb, cold, blue…you name it. I had to go to a baptism and luncheon this morning, and then I came home to rest. The phone rang and it was a different Dr. from the urgent care wondering if I had went to the ER. He was not pleased when I told him I hadn’t. He said it was his “professional opinion” that I better get my butt to the ER.
So I decided to go. I was SO shocked that I was in and out of that place in 20 minutes. Of course it cost me $100, but I got some answers, and a huge stupid cast. The Dr. there decided casting my arm even though it wasn’t broken would help the ligaments and tendons that were damaged to heal, and the blood hematoma inside my arm to not spread. It is a huge pain in the butt. I have never had a broken bone or cast or anything.
I am SO SO glad that I only have to wear it about a week, or until the pain goes away. I have major claustrophobia, so you better believe this cast is about to push me over the edge. Now comes the time to find my longest sweater with sleeves that I can hide the stupid thing so I can go to church tomorrow. I don’t need to explain the story 100 times.
So, moral of the story, watch out for ice in Dinosaur, CO….and listen to the Dr.

p.s. I have pictures, from Mandy’s phone

p.s.s. The headache Dr. in Craig was WONDERFUL…she gave me a Ton of hope…if anyone needs her name and # give me a call.

Oh dear!!! I feel so bad because I had no idea. My mom asked me about it at lunch just barely and I told her you never said anything and I didn't see a cast Saturday morning. I'm SO SORRY. That sucks. I meant to ask you if the Dr. in Roosevelt did any good for you and your headaches? At least you are getting help now. Hope you get feeling better. Glad you got a girls night out.

Oh my gosh!! You poor girl. You are so insane to not have gone to the ER right away. I'm glad it wasn't anything worse--your arm could have fallen off in the night or something. Next time, go to the doctor ASAP!
I'm sorry you have to wear a cast. I hope it feels better really soon and that you get lots of extra help around the house.
I hope your migraines can be taken care of,too.
