Finally!

Well, after months of wiggling and being a big wimp, Hallie finally let me pull her tooth last night. Her front two teeth have been loose since like Thanksgiving, but she wouldn’t let me touch them. Last night she came to me and told me that it was ready. She wanted to try herself, so she got a string and tied it and she tried to pull but was too scared to pull very hard. She told me I could have one try. So I barely even tugged, and POP! It came right out. Her other one was just as loose, but I figured that was enough action for one night. She got some money, gum, and special “note” from the tooth fairy encouraging her to wiggle her other tooth and to make sure to brush her teeth.
She already has suspicions that I am the tooth fairy. A little girl at school told her that the tooth fairy was not real. So, being an inquisitive little gal, she rented a book from the library about tooth fairies. She had me read it to her, and I was all excited thinking that it would tell her that the tooth fairy is real. Well, IT DIDN’T! I was so mad and shocked that a children’s book would say that. So all of you reading this never rent the book called, “Dad, are you the Tooth Fairy” by Jason Alexander. That is unless you want your kids to stop believing in the tooth fairy. I talked her in to believing again last night because she is much too young to lose hope in magical things like that. I just told her that it is magic, and the only way the tooth fairy comes is to believe. She agreed and when she woke up this morning had no question that she was real, for now at least!
Anyways, in the picture, if you look closely, you will see 2 problems. #1 she has a stain on her bottom tooth that is so bad. The dentist said it was from having really high fevers as a baby. I am hoping that she doesn’t have any stains on the top teeth that come in. He said we could fix the bottom stain as she gets older. #2 She has a cross bite. That means that on one side of her mouth, the teeth bite down behind her bottom teeth, and on the other side, it is correct and the top teeth bit down in front of her bottom teeth. I used to work for an orthodontist, so I asked him what the best option was. He said that she would need braces as soon as the top 2 teeth grow in and then they would add brackets as each tooth grew in thereafter. I really don’t want a 7-8 year old with braces, but he said either braces for a little while now, and maybe for a year or so after all her teeth come in, or else 5-6 years of braces and lots of headgear when she is older. So I guess we better start saving for our orthodontist bill! Have a great day!

Yay for losing a tooth! I can't wait to play tooth fairy!

Chris' aunt actually wrote a tooth fairy book. It's called "The Tooth Fairy's Guide To Lost Teeth" and it's by J Lynn Caldwell.

I got a copy from Chris' mom. The whole family was so excited that she got a book published that we all had to have one. It's actually a really cute book. You get to look up the date that you lost your tooth and the Tooth Fairy gives you little bits of advice or fun little facts about teeth. I'll find the one for yesterday and send it over to you.

It's nice to know that my little Brooklyn isn't the only one scared to pull her tooth. It made me crazy. I just wanted to pull the darn tooth. I think I was just looking forward to being the tooth fairy. Good luck with the other lose tooth.

That is so fun!! Good for you for getting her to believe again, it is so sad that little kids have to grow up so fast now.
